Federal prosecutors identify a Janesville man as an alleged participant in the armed uprising at the U.S. Capitol on January 6.

42-year-old Michael Fitzgerald is charged in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia with obstructing law enforcement, entering a restricted building and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.

FBI filings show Fitzgerald was photographed and caught on video as part of a group pushing against Capitol police officers to enter the building.

An anonymous tipster identified Fitzgerald from images released by the FBI, and he admitted to federal agents that he was the person in the picture.

He is one of hundreds charged with taking part in the riot, which led to the death of a Capitol police officer.

A Facebook account purporting to be Michael Fitzgerald commented on WCLO’s post of this story: “You people can only speculate what you think happened. I served my Country and I’m a family man. I didn’t do anything. Please get a life.”
