The United Way Blackhawk Region’s annual campaign reaches 93% of its $2.4 million goal. President and CEO Mary Fanning-Penny attributes much of this to the impact of the pandemic on workplace campaigns. Fanning-Penny says there’s plenty to celebrate, although the annual spring gathering was cancelled due to COVID-19. Never-the-less more than 50 companies and individuals are being honored for their commitment. They include Bob Compton of Lycon Incorporated as the Geraldine Hedberg Volunteer of the year Award. The Excellence in Advocacy Award goes to the Sew Connected Mask Warriors for sewing 4500 masks to help slow the spread of COVID. And Alliant Energy is honored with the Live United Award.
