Janesville city leaders present proposals to spend COVID-19 relief funding

Janesville city department heads and commission leaders identify their priorities for American Rescue Plan Act funding.
The city council heard the preliminary presentation Monday night from Deputy City Manager Ryan McCue, who shared the city’s top 29 proposals.
They formed an evaluation team to weigh the ideas and identify the best uses for Janesville’s nearly $12 million of COVID-19 relief funding.
The top proposal is replacing $4.7 million in lost revenues from the pandemic. Once allocated, that money would be placed into reserves where the city could spend it with no restrictions.
Other top major projects include water main replacements for Court Street and Center Avenue, lead service line replacements and lost revenue from the Janesville Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The City Council will vote on a final proposed spending plan in September.
