A Walworth County Sheriff’s Deputy is seriously injured trying to stop a suspected drunk driver over the weekend.
According to a news release, a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle driven by 25-year-old Tony Perales of Racine just after 1:00 Sunday morning in Lake Geneva for traveling 62 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour zone.
Perales is accused of turning his lights off and fleeing at speeds of over 100 miles per hour on Highway 11, while blowing through stop signs.
Deputy Wayne Blanchard was near a guardrail in the town of Spring Prairie attempting to deploy stop sticks when Perales lost control of his vehicle.
The vehicle struck the guard rail, injuring Perales’ 31-year-old passenger, as well as deputy Blanchard.
The passenger was treated and released at a local hospital, and the deputy was hospitalized with serious injuries.
Perales was arrested on suspicion of a number of charges including fleeing, and operating while intoxicated causing great bodily harm.
