Beloit man on trial for attempted homicide from 2019

A Beloit man is on trial this week for a 2019 shooting.
Opening arguments began Monday morning for the case against 45-year-old Donald Gilmore, who is charged in Rock County Court with attempted homicide, recklessly endangering safety, possession of a firearm by a felon and intimidating a witness.
Assistant District Attorney David Olsen said the evidence shows Gilmore shot at another man in the parking lot of a Burton Street apartment in June of 2019.
The state has a witness who saw the altercation, along with security camera footage of Gilmore with a firearm.
Police also reviewed calls Gilmore placed from the jail, where he tried to get another person to dissuade the victim from coming to court.
Defense attorney Melissa Frost opted to wait to give the her side’s opening argument until the prosecution rests its case.
The jury trial is scheduled to continue through Friday.
