DHS speeds up contact tracing with text and email

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services unveils new COVID-19 contact tracing technology intended to speed notification.

Rock County Public Health Department Public Health Supervisor Kelsey Cordova says it’s in addition to the “Wisconsin Exposure Notification” app and the tell-your-contacts-dot-org website.

Cordova says individuals who test positive for COVID-19 will still get a call from a contact tracer, but the new technology allows contact tracers to send a text or email to the close contacts of the person who tested positive as well.

Cordova says this new email and text notification system is different from the Wisconsin Exposure Notification app, which exchanges anonymous information with other phones that are near it for at least 15 minutes to allow people who test positive to send alerts to nearby phones.
