A local Congressman defends his decision this week to vote against the short-term extension of the debt ceiling, temporarily avoiding a fiscal crisis.

Republican Bryan Steil of Janesville says the 219-206 vote Tuesday was along party lines.

Steil says we are starting to see the beginning of inflation and rising prices due to runaway spending in Washington and if the interest rates go up, the federal government is really going to be feeling the pinch.

The measure raises the debt limit by $480 billion, the amount the Biden administration says is necessary to pay the nation’s debts until early December.
