A local hospital supports good nutrition

Some needy local residents may be having difficulty maintaining a nutritious diet in what’s considered a food desert.  SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital-Janesville Community Health Manger Megan Timm says Rock County’s rate of low food access impacts more than one-in-three residents, where only one-in-five residents are affected statewide.  Timm says limited access to nutritious food negatively impacts health outcomes.  In an effort to support those in need during the holidays, Timm says SSM Health plans to offer recipients of SNAP benefits an extra 20-dollars to use at the Beloit Indoor Farmer’s Market.
