A hazardous materials incident around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday prompted an evacuation of the Beloit College Powerhouse. Beloit officials say the Janesville Fire Department’s Hazardous Materials Unit is assisting the Beloit Fire Department. No additional evacuations are expected, but residents were advised to avoid the area. The D-O-T also reported Highway 51 was closed in both directions for the emergency response.
