Beloit teen killed in single-vehicle crash

A 17-year-old Beloit boy is dead following a single-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon in the town of Newark.

According to a news release, the Rock County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the accident in a field off of South State Highway 213 between South Kettle and South Smythe School Roads just before 12:30 Wednesday afternoon.

Investigation determined that the teen was headed north on 213 when his vehicle drifted to the east shoulder, left the road, went down a ravine, and came back up hill.

The vehicle struck a tree and an old power pole before coming to a rest at the top of the hill in a field east of South Kettle Road.

The driver was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The name of the driver is not being released.
