Hy-Vee proposal receives pushback from Janesville ALAC member

At least one member of Janesville’s Alcohol License Advisory Committee appears opposed to the proposed changes to City ordinances which would be necessary for Hy-Vee to redevelop the former Shopko store.
Paul Williams says the changes would allow Hy-Vee to operate a liquor store without full separation as well as a bar/restaurant under a single Class B license.
Williams says a Class A license is what regular liquor stores need to sell alcohol, and if the modifications to the Class B license were to pass, Hy-Vee would be able to sell alcohol until midnight instead of 9:00 p.m. like every other liquor store and grocery store in town.
Williams says the proposed changes would also eliminate the requirement that the liquor store be separated by rigid walls, and allow separation by utilizing other methods like partitions and seating arrangements.
The Alcohol License Advisory Committee will consider the changes to City ordinance at their meeting on December 7th.
