The Immigrant Support Network will host a virtual presentation via Zoom on Wednesday, February 9 at 3:30 p.m. The guest speaker will be Rev. Peder Johanson, Volunteer Coordinator of the Afghan Refugee Response with the Wisconsin Council of Churches. Rev. Johanson will talk about the Afghan refugee resettlement in Wisconsin and give an update on the current volunteer needs at Fort McCoy. Those interested in attending can join the presentation with this link: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/81652526079?pwd=MG1sc2VsRndTaHRKNWlqY2RVbGE2dz09
As the Volunteer Coordinator for Afghan Relief and Resettlement, Rev. Johanson’s role includes helping volunteers connect with opportunities at Fort McCoy, assisting congregations in supporting resettlement agencies around the state, and working with partners to help educate congregations and communities on matters of immigration, refugee resettlement, and welcoming our new Afghani neighbors. Attendees will also hear from local church members who worked with the Afghan Relief and Resettlement program to help get an Afghani family settled in Milwaukee.
The Immigrant Support Network (ISN) is a coalition of organizations and individuals that welcome and support immigrants in our community through building partnerships and raising awareness of immigrant needs. ISN meetings are held every other month on the second Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. Currently meetings are being held virtually on Zoom.
