Janesville to seek federal funds to fill Community Center funding gap.

The Janesville City Council considers applying for a 7.5 million dollar federal grant to fill an expected financing gap in the total construction cost of the proposed Woodman’s Community Center.
The grant is available as a function of the 2021 American Rescue Plan Act grants for the tourism industry.
The City already used $2 million of the $11 million it was allocated from the Local Fiscal Recovery Fund created by ARPA to pay for the design phase of the project.
The resolution on Monday’s agenda reads” federal financial assistance is needed to move forward with the construction of the Woodman’s Community Center;”.
Should the grant be received, the city would be responsible to match 20-percent of the total, which is $1.875 million.
Members of the public can weigh in during the public comment portion of tonight’s meeting, which begins at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall.
