Initiative Looks To Protect Nearly One Million Wisconsin Children

A nationwide program will work to keep close to a million children safe in Wisconsin.  An at-home fingerprinting and DNA sample kit from the National Child Identification Program will be made available for free to 975,000 K-through-12 students in the state, including over 27,000 in Rock County.  At an event introducing the move Wednesday at the Beloit College Powerhouse, Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul says the kit can be kept at a parent’s home to protect their kids’ privacy, while having ready information to provide for locating a lost child.  City of Beloit Police Chief Andre Sayles adds the kits will give law enforcement a tool which allows them to be proactive in their efforts in finding missing children.  The offer of free ID kits to all students in the state makes Wisconsin the third state in the Union to make the resource available to parents.
