The City of Janesville enters into an agreement to purchase the land for the proposed indoor athletic and conference center for $1.00.
The site of the former Sears store and the adjoining parking lot would be sold back to Uptown Janesville owner Rockstep Capital is the project fails to get approved by the City Council.
The proposed Woodmans Community Center is proposed to consist of a main ice rink with up to 1,500 seats, a secondary rink with 250 seats that’s convertible to court or turf and meeting overflow, and a 20,000 square foot flexible dry space.
Citizens who spoke during the public comment portion of Monday night’s City Council meeting were mostly in favor of the project.
The vote by the City Council to acquire the land was five to to two with council members Paul Williams and Heather Miller dissenting.
