Beloit City Council passes ordinance aimed to reduce puppy and kitten mill demand

city-of-beloit-3-2

An ordinance aimed at reducing demand for puppy and kitten mills passes unanimously by the Beloit City Council. Strategic Communications Director Sarah Lock says pet stores won’t be allowed to sell cats, dogs and/or rabbits in Beloit. Lock says Illinois currently bans selling cats and dogs commercially. With Beloit’s proximity to the state line, the council wanted to take a proactive approach to banning commercial sale of cats, dogs and rabbits. The change won’t prevent collaboration between stores, humane societies or other animal rescues to provide on-site adoption. This was not geared towards existing businesses or business requests.
