The City of Janesville works to get the lead out of the drinking water system.
A proposed change to the City of Janesville’s code of general ordinance would require property owners to remove iron water pipes that were once downstream from lead pipes.
Utility Director Dave Botts says it’s falling in line with new Environmental Protection agency requirements.
Botts says the City has funds available to help property owners remove iron pipes that were once downstream from lead pipes.
The Janesville City Council held a first reading of their proposed ordinance change on Monday night and scheduled a public hearing for April 25th.
