A local congressman’s identity theft and prevention workshop to stop scammers from stealing information draws Janesville residents to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater at Rock County campus. First Congressional District’s Congressman Bryan Steil says it impacts some of the senior citizens and young people. Steil says everyone feels they’ll never be a fraud victim but 40,000 people in Wisconsin were victims last year, and the average fraud is $350. He says the tools he and representatives want to share are to not give out your information over the phone when receiving a call, and don’t answer it when it comes from an odd number. Hopes are to continue spreading the word and ultimately preventing people from becoming victims. The event was held yesterday. You can visit steil.house.gov for more information.
