The four-day first degree intentional homicide trial continues for the 36-year-old former Beloit man accused of shooting a fellow resident of a rehabilitation home to death in December of 2020.
Retired Beloit Police Officer Veronica Weber – who made the arrest – testified Tuesday morning that 36-year-old Mario Tucker refused to comply with her demands until after he threw an unknown object over the Portland Avenue bridge.
Sergeant Christopher Krahn testified in court Tuesday that his team searched the area below the Portland Avenue bridge extensively, but came up empty handed.
Tucker is accused of shooting 50-year-old Dwayne Wiggins of Beloit to death, in a dispute over the use of profanity in a rehabilitation home on 10th Street in Beloit, where they both lived at the time of the December 2020 shooting.
Tucker’s defense attorney Melissa Frost said there’s no question that her client shot Wiggins, but it was because he feared for his safety.
