A former vice president for Mercyhealth who was convicted of wire fraud and tax evasion will spend her prison time in Connecticut.

Barbara Bortner was sentenced three-and-a-half years in federal prison for co-conspiring to pilfer more than $3 million from the hospital network.

Monday, U.S. District Court Judge William Conley grants a request for Bortner to be confined at a minimum security corrections facility in Danbury, Connecticut rather than a federal corrections facility in Pekin, Illinois.

The request is made by Bortner’s attorneys so she could receive substance abuse and mental health counseling through the Residential Drug Abuse Program available to federal prisoners.

The attorneys point out the Pekin facility does not offer the drug abuse program.

Bortner is scheduled to begin her prison time in August.

Former celebrity inmates at FCI Danbury include Orange is the New Black author Piper Kerman, and rapper Lauryn Hill.
