Man sentenced to four years behind bars for crash that killed Janesville motorcyclist

A 38-year-old Janesville man who immigrated to America as a toddler will likely be deported back to Thailand after serving his sentence for a crash that killed a motorcyclist last year.

As part of a plea agreement, in June, Mon Thong plead guilty to operating while revoked causing death and operating with a prohibited alcohol content. A more serious charge of of homicide by use a vehicle with prohibited alcohol content was dismissed as the prosecutor couldn’t meet the burden of proof.

In court Wednesday afternoon Judge Karl Hanson sentenced Thong to the maximum allowable time – four years in prison and three years of extended supervision.

52-year-old Steven Pignato was killed as a result of the crash at the intersection of Court and Pearl Streets in July of 2021.
