The Janesville City Council considers and ordinance amendment intended to get abandoned, unlicensed, or nonoperable vehicles off of streets quicker.
Police Chief David Moore says current ordinance defines an abandoned vehicle as one that remains in a single location on public property for more than 48 hours.
Moore is recommending that the amount of time a vehicle be allowed to park in one place be reduced to 24 hours with notification by a sticker on the vehicle instead of a mailing.
The Janesville City Council held a first reading of the ordinance amendment at their meeting last week and plan to hold a public hearing at their meeting next Monday.
