Local fire departments are encouraging citizens to embrace October 9th through the 15th as National Fire Prevention Week.
Both the City of Beloit and the City of Janesville have approved proclamations highlighting this year’s campaign “Fire won’t wait. Plan your escape.”
Beloit City Council Vice-President Nancy Forbeck says fire departments in the United State responded to 356,500 home fires in 2020.
Forbeck says smoke and carbon monoxide alarms detect a hazard well before you can, and getting out within two minutes cuts the chance of dying in a residential fire by half.
Fire Chief Daniel Pease says it’s been two years since firefighters have been able to go inside the schools to provide fire safety education, and he’s looking forward to doing that again this year.
