The City of Janesville is named a Bird City USA for the 10th year in a row.
City Manager Mark Freitag says to acquire the status, the City had to meet six criteria, including habitat creation and protection, community forest management, limiting threats to birds, public education, energy and sustainability, and official recognition of World Migratory Bird Day.
Birds in Wisconsin’s Park Place enjoy a 2,609-acre park system which includes 500 acres of green belt natural areas for habitat.
Freitag says Janesville’s recognition as a Bird City would not be possible without the partnership of several community organizations. Partner groups provide critical assistance in bird habitat creation, monitoring initiatives, and public education efforts.
