Rock County Public Health Department begins administering bivalent booster doses to those 5 and up

corona-virus-2

The Rock County Public Health Department is hoping to see more young people five to 11 years old getting their COVID-19 vaccine booster shots.

Public Health Supervisor Kelsey Cordova says the CDC has expanded eligibility for bivalent booster doses.

Cordova says the health department plans to begin administering the Pfizer bivalent booster to those five and up and the Moderna bivalent booster to those six and up beginning next week.

Cordova says with the authorization of the bivalent vaccines in this age group, the monovalent Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine is no longer available as a booster dose for those ages 5-11.

Cordova says each updated booster includes a component of the original strain of the virus that provides an immune response that is broadly protective, and a component that protects against the omicron variant of the virus.
