The Woodman’s Sports and Convention Center Design team has moved on the next phase of the project, but time is of the essence.
Public Works Director Mike Payne says that the team was able to move past the schematic process and into the design development phase.
Payne says that the original schedule was setup to bring a recommendation to the current city council for the awarding of a construction contract, but now with some delays it is possible that the recommendation may be brought to a new city council after the spring election.
Payne says now that they committee has identified the footprints, there may no longer be a need for the group as a whole to meet, but instead specific users of spaces within the project meet with the designers to help move the project along.
The WSCC was recently given an updated project cost of just north of $50 million for the convention and sports center.
