The Janesville City Council got feedback from the search firm they hired to find their next city manager at special council meeting Wednesday night.
Government Professional Solutions co-owner Chris Lowe says they debated on how much experience a candidate should have, finally settling on seven years as a good minimum number for someone taking the job.
Lowe and the council also went back and forth on the pay for the position, with Lowe saying the $176,000 the city paid most recent manager Mark Freitag was probably a little low for the current market.
Lowe suggested the city council boost the pay range to $180,000 to $225,000 for the next city manager.
If the recruitment sticks to the schedule the city council and G-P-S expect, Janesville could have a new manager by April of 2023.
