Rock County health care providers are reminding citizens to get vaccinated, not only for COVID-19, but also the flu.
Respiratory viruses like influenza, COVID-19, and RSV occur in Wisconsin year-round, with higher levels of activity in fall and winter. Though cold and flu season is just underway, Rock County and other parts of Wisconsin are already seeing high levels of activity.
Rock County Public Health Department Public Health Nurse Jennifer Weadge says over the past four weeks there has been a 35 percent increase in hospitalizations due to respiratory illnesses.
Weadge says in addition to getting vaccinated, the best prevention measures include washing your hands frequently, disinfecting commonly touched surfaces, avoiding large gathering, and staying home if you are sick.
