Orfordville Fire District hopes Town of Newark changes mind on referendum

After a special vote to pass an Orfordville Fire Protection District referendum that would hire full time staff did not pass in the Newark Township, the district’s chief will be looking to hold another special election.
Ryan Perkins tells WCLO’s Your Talk Show if the referendum doesn’t pass in Newark, they will be forced to have a budget of about $500,000, which isn’t enough to hire full time staff and would leave them short on pay for their part time members.
Perkins says it isn’t sustainable to keep running their service they way they do now, and their ambulance was out of service about 49% of the time this year.
Perkins says they’ll be holding informational sessions Thursday and next week Thursday at the Newark Town Hall at 6:30pm both days.
