Janesville’s City Council President makes sense of a vote this week to show support for borrowing over $17 million for an indoor sports and convention center where the Sears store used to be located.
Paul Benson says similar to the capital borrow plan, the money isn’t committed until the contracts are awarded.
Benson says the $17.3 million represents the difference between the estimated $50.3 million cost of the project, and the $33 million in outstanding requests for funding that currently exist.
Benson the City is hoping for funding from the State of Wisconsin, the Federal government and that money hinges on the City’s financial commitment to the project.
Benson says the City is also still hopeful it could get $2 million in funding from the County despite the request being denied by the County Board of Supervisors.
