One in three Walworth County homes tested for radon found levels above EPA standards in 2021, and now the county health department is offering test kits in exchange for non-perishable food items.
Public Health Officer Erica Bergstrom says January is Radon Action Month, and it the short term test kits are very easy to use and will let home owners know if they need to do any long term testing.
Bergstrom says people can drop off non perishable food items at the Health and Human Services building in Elkhorn and in exchange will receive a radon test kit for just $5.
The tests are redeemable Monday through Friday and people will have until the end of January to get the kits.
