TAGOS Charter school doesn’t have contract renewed with SDJ

TAGOS Charter School in Janesville will not have it’s contract with the School District of Janesville renewed after a vote at Tuesday night’s school board meeting.
Superintendent Mark Holzman said it’s the job of the administration to move the district forward, but he didn’t recommend renewing the contract due to declining enrollment numbers and the staff needed for the school.
A number of residents, teachers, and former students spoke at the meeting in support of TAGOS; saying they small class sizes were a benefit and more schools like TAGOS should be opening instead of closing.
Over the past four years 25 students have graduated from TAGOS. This number has steadily declined from 9 in 2019 to 5 in 2022. Three students are on track to graduate in 2023.
