A local State Senator and member of the LGBTQ+ Caucus is reacting to news that therapists in Wisconsin will be allowed to offer the controversial practice of conversion therapy.
Beloit Democrat Mark Spreitzer says he’s very frustrated by the vote to block a rule that bans the practice.
Republicans on the Joint Committee for Review of Administrative Rules argued the state licensing board enacted a rule to ban the practice without legislative approval.
Spreitzer says the LGBTQ+ Caucus has introduced legislation to ban conversion therapy in the past, and they intend to do it again this legislative session.
Last Thursday’s 6-4 party line vote will allow Wisconsin therapists to try to change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity.
