The City of Beloit’s Police Chief is touting his department’s success reducing crime.

Andre Sayles says in 2022 shots fired incidents were down 52%, gunshot victims went down 86%, homicides dropped by 25%, and robberies saw a 10% decrease.

Sayles says when you look at robberies, most of the time it is someone the victim knows.

Sayles says an increase in traffic stops was a helping factor in the decrease in violent crime, as criminals stay mobile and move from crime to home and crime to crime via vehicle.
