Rock Correctional Officers had protective occupation status prior to Act 4

A bill intended to help attract and retain local county jail staff is already the law of the land in Rock County.
Captain Nick Brown says Correctional Officers in Rock County have had protective occupation status as long as he can remember.
Protective occupation status gives individuals benefits such as earlier retirement at 50-years-old and receiving duty disability benefits.
Governor Tony Evers recently signed Act 4 which will classify county jailers as protective occupation participants under the Wisconsin Retirement System, similar to firefighters and police officers.
