The Rock County Sheriff’s Office and surrounding agencies are seeing a large uptick in fraud cases, especially victimizing older people.
According to a news release, in most cases the money that is lost cannot be recovered because of te avenues the funds are being transferred.
The Sheriff’s Office reminds the public to be vigilant on who you giv personal information and send money to. Watch out for each other and the older population.
If you see someone in front of you at the store with a large amount of gift cards, they could potentially be the victim of a scam.
The most common scams involve claiming to be from the IRS or a law enforcement agency, the grandchild in jail scam, and package scams from Amazon and other shippers.
