The Rock County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an inmate suicide at the Rock County Jail.
According to a news release, just after noon on April 18th jail staff were notified by an inmate that another inmate in section D-3 needed medical attention.
Correctional officers responded and found the inmate hanging in his cell.
Lifesaving measures were started, and Janesville Fire Department paramedics arrived and were able to regain a pulse before transporting the inmate to a local hospital.
The Sheriff’s Office was notified on Sunday that the inmate – a 53-year-old Beloit man, had died.
The inmate had been taken into custody on April 4th for a probation violation.
The incident remains under investigation.
