The Janesville Plan Commission gives the thumbs up to two new eight-unit apartment buildings at 251 Hyatt Street.
Several residents spoke out a a public hearing in opposition to the project, citing concerns about increased traffic and the proximity of the development to the railroad tracks.
The 1.9 acre site is currently vacant, but used to house a furniture manufacturing operation. The former buildings were torn down in 2017.
The Janesville Plan Commission approved the rezoning of the property, authorized that the minimum parcel size be reduced from two acres to 1.9, and approved a conditional use permit for the project at their meeting on Monday night.
