Rock County reminding citizens to test wells

Officials with Rock County are reminding citizens now may be a good time to test their well water for bacteria and nitrates if they haven’t already done so.

Rock County Health Officer Katrina Harwood says the county board recently allocated ARPA funding to support a nitration mitigation program and some residents may be eligible to receive free testing kits.

Harwood says testing your well water is always important, but especially for children or for households with someone who may be pregnant.

Harwood says they’re seeing about 25% of private wells in Rock County are testing above the health advisory level for nitrates.

People can visit the county’s website for more info on the program.
