The city of Whitewater was no stranger to the tourism growth the whole state of Wisconsin experienced in 2022.
Discover Whitewater Executive Director Kellie Carper says they measure their increases based on room tax revenues and saw a 42% increase over 2021 and more than doubled revenues collected in 2021.
Carpers says there are a number of factors which contributed to the growth, including the University re-opening summer camps, being an Ice Age Trail Community, and the opening of a new hotel near the Whitewater campus.
Wisconsin as a whole saw an 8.7% increase in visits and tourism generated $1.5 billion in state and local tax revenue.
