City of Janesville reminds residents what not to flush

The City of Janesville is once again reminding citizens to keep wet wipes and other non-organic items out of the sewer system.
The water utility is keeping busy dealing with costly snarls in the pipes and pumps of the sewer system.
Director Dave Botts says although many manufacturers advertise bathroom products as flushable, they do not break down in the sewer system.
Impacts of non-flushable products entering sewer systems can remain undetected and cause significant breaks in sewer mains or backups into homes.
Botts says the only things you should be flushing are toilet paper and human waste.
Botts says water utility workers have seen everything from kitty litter, to dental floss improperly flushed down the toilet.
