Beloit police investigate armed robbery

Beloit police are investigating an armed robbery.  Police say a gunman entered the Mobile Gas Station on Liberty Avenue about 11:00 p.m. Thursday demanding cash.  Officers say during the robbery, a patron snuck out and retrieved a handgun from his vehicle, chasing the suspect into an alley.  The 40-year-old Beloit man told police the suspect turned toward him with the gun.  Police say the would-be good-samaritan fired a shot which narrowly missed another witness in a nearby car.  No one was injured and the robber got away, but officers say the patron firing the gun was arrested for the Intoxicated Use of a Firearm.
