Janesville hopes to purchase up to $1.58 million worth of landfill clay

A new heaping of landfill quality clay could be on the way for the Janesville landfill should the city council approve the purchase at their Monday night meeting.
Operations Director Maggie Darr says they’re asking the council to approve the purchase of up to $1.58 million worth of the clay to be stored at the landfill and then used for future small and large capital projects.
Darr says this isn’t just your average clay, and the city is under strict Wisconsin DNR rules and permits so any clay used for landfill projects needs to be sampled, tested, and approved by the DNR.
Darr says they plan to borrow roughly $1.24 million for the clay from the Sanitation Fund.
