A 40-year-old Janesville woman who fatally struck a child in a crosswalk in September of last year will have to spend 200 hours working as a crossing guard.
The unique sentence was passed down to Brenda Violante by Rock County Judge Derrick Grubb Thursday afternoon. Violante was also ordered to serve two years in prison and two years of extended supervision.
Violante plead guilty in July to a single count of knowingly operating without a license causing death.
Violante was stopped for the stop sign at Prairie Avenue and East memorial Drive, but didn’t see Nolan crossing the street as she made a right turn.
