Based on an initial presentation of the 2024 recommended budget, taxes could be going up in Rock County in 2024.
County Administrator Josh Smith gave a first look during the county’s regular board meeting Thursday night and says the 2024 increase in the levy is almost 10%, and taxes could go up by $5.6 million.
Smith says the increase comes because the county used one time funds in the amount of $5.6 million to lower taxes in the previous budget.
Smith says it is not sustainable to keep using one time funds to lower taxes, and maybe the county can do it for another year or so, but eventually they will run out of reserves or they’ll have to reallocate money.
A public hearing on the 2024 budget is slated for November 2nd, and the county hopes to adopt the budget at their November 14th meeting.
