One person is dead, and two are pulled from the banks of the Rock River after a canoe capsizes in Janesville Sunday.
Janesville Police and Fire were dispatched to the area near the Milwaukee Street bridge shortly after 4:30 Sunday afternoon on the report of multiple people in the water.
First responders found two people on the banks of the river that had self-rescued, and removed them via portable ladders.
Janesville Fire Department deployed an inflatable boat and a dive boat with sonar capabilities to search for a third person that had surfaced briefly but was not seen again.
After about 20 minutes of searching, the body of the third person was located and removed from the river.
The names of the people involved in the incident have not been released. Acting Janesville Police Chief Chad Pearson says the identity of the person killed will be released by the Rock County Medical Examiner’s Office.
