It looks as if a new president will lead the Beloit City Council come this spring.
Current Council President Regina Dunkin announced Tuesday she filed papers for non-candidacy and won’t be seeking re-election, hoping other people in the community will be encouraged to step up and fill the seat.
Dunkin says there’s a lot of accomplishments she’s proud of, but the best one is providing outstanding public services to the residents of Beloit; and she felt it was a good time to step down because of the experience level of the current council.
Dunkin was the first African-American woman to serve as president of the council.
