A lower than expected construction bid on the Woodman’s Sports and Convention Center is exciting news according to the city, but they’re not changing plans on other costs.
Director of Public Works Mike Payne says they still have to take into account things like soft costs related to support and administration of the project, as well as furniture and equipment, but they are hopeful the project can be delivered for less than the original $50.3 million.
Payne says despite the low bid, they’ll continue to hold the estimates that were prepared and he thinks post COVID material lead times are getting shorter and the winter is a perfect time to start this type of project.
The Janesville City Council is expected to vote on the project at their January 22nd meeting.
