The Janesville Plan Commission green lights that acquisition of 1.27 acres of land along the Rock River near the south end of Traxler Park at a cost of $125,000.
Planning Director Duane Cherek says the seller Hendricks Commercial Properties would tear down the former Shuler’s Furniture Store building which has been vacant since the flood in 2008.
The space could become part of a trail and park space network the city plans to connect Traxler to the downtown.
The primary source of funding for the acquisition will be provided by the City’s Parkland Acquisition Fund.
