The Rock River Democratic Socialists of America will be holding a public forum ‘Peace in Israel – Palestine’ located in the Hedberg Public Library, Woodruff Room on Wednesday, January 24 from 5-7 pm.
“We are horrified by violence in the region of Israel and Palestine,” said Seth Lambert of the Rock River Democratic Socialists of America. “While the initial attack by Hamas was indefensible, we are concerned that the Israeli reaction, in its targeting of Palestinian civilians, continues a long history of ethnic cleansing by the apartheid state of Israel. We hope this forum will encourage respectful discussion and greater understanding of the conflict. We seek to foster a desire in our community to bring about peace in Gaza and the Middle East.”
“We’ve got two speakers scheduled to come and talk with the community. Tsela Barr, a member of Jewish Voice for Peace-Madison and Salih Erschen, Director of Janesville’s Muslim Dawa Circle.”
“The desire for peace and justice in Palestine is not limited to one group or religion. We are many, Jews, Muslims, and Christians, all who want to see an end to the killing. We agree that the only way to bring about peace is through a political solution that respects the rights of Palestinians, ending the apartheid.
“In a statement from October 14, 2023, titled ‘No Money For Massacres’, the National Political Committee of the Democratic Socialists of America called for an immediate ceasefire and an end to United States military aid to Israel. Link: https://www.dsausa.org/statements/no-money-for-massacres/
“We welcome anyone to join us who would like to learn more about the history of the region, what is happening today in Palestine, and what can be done about it,” said Lambert. “We can’t ignore this issue, America has a role in it and it is our responsibility to do something.”
